Building for a sustainable UAE

Sustainability at VSB is not an add-on — it is how we deliver. Our projects are engineered to the UAE's climate commitments, green building codes and worker-welfare laws.

An overview of our sustainability framework

Our framework focuses on three pillars where we can make the biggest difference: our people, our places and our planet. Each pillar is backed by the management systems we certify to and the UAE regulations we build under.

Our People

Our People

Safe, fairly treated teams are the foundation of every project. We operate an ISO 45001 safety management system, observe the UAE midday-break rule in full, pay through the Wages Protection System, and maintain welfare standards that exceed our legal obligations.

Our Places

Our Places

We build to the green building codes of each emirate — Al Sa'fat in Dubai and the Estidama Pearl Rating in Abu Dhabi — while controlling dust, noise and traffic impacts so our sites are good neighbours to the communities around them.

Our Planet

Our Planet

Through our ISO 14001 environmental management system we measure and reduce emissions, segregate and recycle construction waste, conserve water and energy on site, and specify sustainable materials — supporting the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 commitment.

UAE Laws & Standards

Compliant by design

The UAE has one of the region's most advanced sustainability and worker-protection frameworks. These are the laws and standards every VSB project is delivered under.

UAE Net Zero by 2050

The UAE was the first nation in the MENA region to commit to net-zero emissions by 2050. Our carbon-reduction roadmap, procurement choices and site operations are aligned with this national strategic initiative.

Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2024 — Climate Change

The UAE Climate Law, in force since 30 May 2025, requires entities to measure, report and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We maintain GHG inventories covering our direct and energy-related emissions using approved methodologies, retain records for the required five years, and embed the Ministry's reduction targets in our planning.

Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 — Environment Protection

The UAE's foundational environmental law governs pollution prevention and environmental impact. Our projects proceed with the required environmental permits and impact assessments, with mitigation plans enforced on site.

Federal Law No. 12 of 2018 — Integrated Waste Management

Construction and demolition waste is segregated at source, transported by licensed carriers and directed to approved recycling and disposal facilities, with full waste-transfer documentation on every project.

Al Sa'fat — Dubai Green Building System

Dubai Municipality's mandatory green building rating applies to all new buildings in Dubai. We design and construct to the required Sa'fa level across energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality and materials.

Estidama Pearl Rating — Abu Dhabi

Projects in Abu Dhabi must achieve at least a 1 Pearl rating under the Estidama framework, with higher minimums for government projects. Our engineering and delivery teams build to Pearl requirements from design through handover.

MOHRE Midday Break & Worker Welfare

From 15 June to 15 September, work under direct sunlight and in open areas is prohibited between 12:30 and 15:00. We plan summer programmes around the ban, provide shaded rest areas and hydration, and comply with all MOHRE labour-welfare requirements.

Emirate HSE Codes & ISO Certification

Our sites operate under the Dubai Municipality Code of Construction Safety Practice and, in Abu Dhabi, the OSHAD framework — underpinned by our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified management systems.
